[Somehow, he hadn't picked up his phone again. Instead, he just watched for a moment, curious.]

Just one more minute. [That he'd make her wait with him.] Just to let it cool.

[Hmph. he's stalling, isn't he? Shouldn't his two hours be up already?

Then again, when she invited him over she asked if he had a curfew. Perhaps she brought this on herself. Though—]

If you feel too tired to return home I can let you borrow one of the empty rooms. Just make sure you contact your folks so I don't have a worried mom throwing herself at my gate.

[He'd fuss over his distaste for a dull syllabus later but it was still nice to breathe differently. His heart felt stronger, too.

Once the minute was up, he let Rin go from her arm prison and picked up the cup she'd given him, going right into a sip. The stream of steam coming up from it before had slowed just enough for him. Thanks to the humid shower and Rin's steadily approaching water bill, he didn't struggle at all taking a few sips.]

It's gonna be hard goin' back to the cheap stuff after this.

...What type of tea does your mom like?

[This is ONLY repayment for the jam and nothing else. NOTHING! As punctuated by the fact she's not asking what he, or his household as a whole, enjoys.]

...Green. Fresh Shincha. [When he tried to hide his smile with his cup, he couldn't quite pull it off.]

[Fresh shincha? But... that's sencha, right? It's just... oh god, come on. You know this, Tohsaka. Sencha that's... no, what she's thinking of is genmaicha. Shincha is "new", so that's — Right! The first roast of the spring harvest. Ugh, but how in the world is someone supposed to have Shincha this time of year? It won't be until April that it's in season again... A properly sealed tin from the first harvest last year may do it, but it's not anything she has. She thought she may be clever and just send him home with a fancy tin of something for his mom.

—Oh! But she has something else. He'll probably be able to see her stewing over this for a while as she's quiet.]

I'll have you take some gyokuro home.

[He took a break to massage his throat, noticing Rin had grown silent. Not wanting to interrupt when she was deep in thought, he took another slow sip of tea and found himself surprised she'd still been thinking about the tea.]

That'll probably knock her outta the park.

[And that generosity would create other, newer problems for Rin.]

It's just a return on the jam! With a bit of interest. Nothing else!

[Besides, if his mom likes her then she won't have troubles down the line when she needs to steal Riki away for something.]

[Enough that she was making him forget a question or two he had from earlier. He took the time to focus on that soothing tea and to attempt to remind himself not to push Rin's buttons when she was being what he presumed to be totally genuine with herself.

If he wanted to see more, he guessed he'd need a little more care than usual.]

[Hmph! It's nothing more than an investment! Tohsaka sets her teacup on its saucer and rises to stand so she may scoop tea into one of her smaller tins. A perfect small size to give his mother a few cups of tea.]

Ah. [Rin was quick to start and Riki ended up sitting forward so he could watch. Once the tin was shoved in his hand, he leaned in to sniff it. Aromatic tea leaves weren't quite his taste but he could tell his mother would fawn over it.]

I'm not getting into anything. This is simply a gift that makes us even. There should be no follow-up!

No point in arguing with me. That isn't my call.

[Except he'd probably be doing mundane chores for her in the future, so his mom was probably just going to have him hand-deliver everything.]

B-but you have to tell her! You're the one handing it to her, so tell her when you do!

Who says anything about arguing? You preface the delivery! It's said before you even hand it over. Do I have to make a hand written letter?!

[He kept eye-contact with her even as he took another long, long sip of tea.]

She hasn't even met you and she already loves you.

—Tch. I could probably think of some ways to rectify that.

[Probably nothing she's willing to do right off the bat, though.]
