[Eventually Tohsaka finishes the tea and returns to the parlor with him. She gently sets the tray down which holds their teacups and saucers.]

Maybe it's like gathering dust, mildew and mold, or your own life energy turning sour? Or maybe...

[She reaches up to curl one lock of his hair around her index finger.]

[Removing her finger from his hair, she then holds her hand at full arm's length in front of her. Conjuring some magical energy - just enough for a visual demonstration that she will allow to dissipate. The black core is dense and distorted while the outer rim varies in thickness but is a distinct red.]

[He almost barely heard her explanation. Riki followed Rin's finger when she curled his hair up and grew very quiet and cooperative.

Only, she managed to grab his attention by doing something he was familiar with. He bent back so he could change how he looked at it and... well, naturally, when Rin did it, it came out perfectly shaped.]

When I do that, it's... kind of a mess.

[After allowing the energy to disperse, Tohsaka picks up her tea for a sip.]

[For some time, Riki simply watched Rin. Sipping tea and relaxing after pulling out a trick most people in the world would gape at. He rubbed his throat, sitting up and just taking her in. She could be a rotten, bratty tease but the whole evening she'd been looking after him after saving him for what would probably the second of many more problems.

All by herself in a big mansion and hiding away when she wasn't taking care of her necessities. She didn't brag about it or share it with anyone from what he could tell. While he got curious about who she was, he asked a few friends from her school. One even from her class. She was quiet and kept to herself, never standing out too much and always polite. He had more friends than he could share his time with and stood out in everything he did. Riki? He was constantly fixated on himself and proving his worth and still, he felt completely unimpressive in comparison to the two, short times he saw what she could do.]

Maybe she rarely had the chance to hear it.]

Wh— what? Why say that all of a sudden?

[Because of course she is. But she can't handle surprise praise! At least not from someone she's taken under her wing like this. Someone she has invested time into. Honestly she still finds it wild he has the patience to deal with her.]

[Liking her when she was haughty quite nearly as much as when she wasn't playing a game with him, Riki shook his head.]

My throat's still a little sore. You've gotta ask me later.

[Tohsaka's cheeks turn red. She'd pressure him to talk, but... he sounds absolutely terrible, and it was her fault for pushing him so hard without warning what might happen. After elbowing him in the rib (not terribly hard) she grabs her tea and tries to hide most of her face with it.]

[Not keen on leaving her alone when she was being cute and rightly deserved her praise, Riki slipped his arm around Rin's waist to urge her closer.]

[No! She'll keep steady as a rock. They're already side-by-side. That's close enough!]

Should I run your clothes through the wash before you head home?

[It's okay. He'l just lean against her and ruin her last stand.]

[Somehow, he hadn't picked up his phone again. Instead, he just watched for a moment, curious.]

Just one more minute. [That he'd make her wait with him.] Just to let it cool.

[Hmph. he's stalling, isn't he? Shouldn't his two hours be up already?

Then again, when she invited him over she asked if he had a curfew. Perhaps she brought this on herself. Though—]

If you feel too tired to return home I can let you borrow one of the empty rooms. Just make sure you contact your folks so I don't have a worried mom throwing herself at my gate.

[He sounded very pleased with himself. Like garbage, too, but very pleased.]

Thanks, but I'm gonna need to head home. If I don't come back on the first session, she'll come here anyway.

[He'd fuss over his distaste for a dull syllabus later but it was still nice to breathe differently. His heart felt stronger, too.

Once the minute was up, he let Rin go from her arm prison and picked up the cup she'd given him, going right into a sip. The stream of steam coming up from it before had slowed just enough for him. Thanks to the humid shower and Rin's steadily approaching water bill, he didn't struggle at all taking a few sips.]

It's gonna be hard goin' back to the cheap stuff after this.
